To be limited by facticity is to live in mauvaise foi (bad faith); it is to deny transcendence and to believe that we — as human beings — are stagnant, unchanging. My past and my context in this world are set in stone; they are the wind, the current, and the condition of my boat.
To transcend is to adjust the sails and set forth in the direction of our choosing, realising the future possibilities available to us despite the constraints imposed by facticity. Sail into the sunset — or not — for our freedom to choose is already at hand.
